Kids Fit (PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT)

NEW course leading to Level 2 Certificate in Instructing Health Related Exercise for Children (Awarded by CYQ and REPs recognised). This is the only industry recognised award in the UK for teaching children.  
 
Three fun-filled days full of practical ideas for teaching children. The course will cover Juniors (aged 5-11) and strategies for keeping teenagers motivated (aged 12-16).  
 
The module covers:  
 
•The benefits and need for Kids Fit classes  
 
•Design of safe and effective Kids Fit lessons for ages 5-11 & 12-16  
 
•Lots of practical ideas for children & teenagers  
 
•Teaching skills and management of children  
 
•Health and safety in running classes and setting up Kids Fit and Teen Activity Clubs  
 
•Coping with special conditions  
 
•Progressing your sessions  
 
It is essential that you have background knowledge of the body and how it works. A recap of anatomy and physiology is useful before you attend the course.  
 
ASSESSMENT  
To gain a CYQ certificate of competence, assessment will include:  
 
• Planning sessions for both 5-11 and 12-16 year olds  
• Submitting a 6 week progressive plan for one of the target age groups  
• Completing a case study for children with specific needs  
• Sitting a level 2 theory paper  
• Submitting a video of a session teaching children  
 
The Register of Exercise Professionals (Reps) will only recognise the Certificate in Instructing Health Related Exercise for Children where students already hold a Level 2 or equivalent in exercise and fitness. Recognised qualifications are on the National Database of Accredited Qualifications (www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk). If you hold a non QCF Certificate, you may be considered for this qualification but will have to provide evidence for “accreditation of prior learning”  
 
 
ILA FUNDING  
You may qualify for financial help towards this course in the form of an Individual Learning Account. To be eligible, you have to be over 18 and live in Wales.  
 
You may be eligible for up to £100 towards the cost of the course if you do not have qualifications higher than GCSE, NVQ2 or BTEC first certificate. If you or your partner are claiming any INCOME RELATED BENEFITS you could be eligible for up to £200 each year. For more information on ILA Funding contact Learn Direct on Tel:- 0800 100900.  
 
If you are applying for an ILA please note that FUNDING MUST BE IN PLACE BEFORE YOU PAY ANY MONEY to Fitness Wales.  
 
If your funding is approved you will receive a training voucher which you should send to Fitness Wales along with your details. When your voucher has been processed by Fitness Wales you will receive a second letter from ILA Wales. At this stage your funding is secure and you can book onto the course.

Dates - Sat 6, Sun 7 and Sat 20 November '10  
Times - 9.00am - 5.00pm  
 
Theory Paper: Friday 10th December, 5.00pm - 6.00pm  
 
This course is REPs recognised and carries 20 CPD points.
